Win streak now at eight with 7-0 win over Cougars

PLATTSBURGH, NY – Playing in their first conference game of the regular season on Sunday (9/20) at SUNY Plattsburgh Soccer Complex, the #2 Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team continued their winning ways, defeating the Clinton Cougars 7-0 for their eighth consecutive victory.

Herkimer (8-0, 1-0) wasted no time putting the game out of reach, accumulating a 5-0 lead by halftime. Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY) put the Generals on the board in the third minute after Saige Hampston found the forward for her third assist of the season. Ward’s team-leading 19th goal lasted until the 25th minute, watching Herkimer net three goals in the next six minutes of play. Jessica Hagadorn (St. Johnsville, NY), Alyssa Lepper (Remsen, NY) and Michaela Bianca (Guilderland, NY) scored on assists from Ward, Jenna Bailey (Tully, NY) and Grace Johnson. , NY) and Leann Clark (St. Johnsville, NY) to push the lead to 4-0.

Bianca made it 5-0 in the 40th when she scored her eighth goal of the season, giving the sophomore three multi-goal performances this season. Getting the assist was Leann Clark (St. Johnsville, NY), her fourth assist of the season.

In the second half, Kalli Warmingham (Newport, NY) and Clark provided the six and seven goal lead in the 54th and 69th minute. It was both Warmingham and Clark’s first goals of the season.

Playing the entire game at goalie was Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY). The sophomore saved a season-high seven shots for her eighth consecutive shutout of the season, not allowing a goal to any opponent thus far.

The Generals will look to stay undefeated this Wednesday (9/23) as they play their fourth consecutive away game against North Country Community College. The Saints are 3-4 and 1-2 in their last three games after 2-1 start. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
