SARANAC LAKE, NY – Without starter Teigha Ward on Wednesday (9/23), the #2 Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team was unable to keep their eight-game win streak alive, losing to North Country Community College on the road 2-1.

Herkimer (8-1, 1-1) scored the least amount of goals in a game, thanks in part to missing a penalty kick within the first two minutes. Kendra Henry (Owego, NY) covered up the missed opportunity when her first goal of the lead gave Herkimer a 1-0 lead in the ninth.

The lead stood for Herkimer until Saints’ Morgan Fountain tied the game in the 26th, on an assist from teammate Sarah Slattery, knotting the game at 1-1 into intermission.

Fountain then broke the tie in the 74th on an assist from Jadeen Chrisholm, giving Herkimer their first conference loss in the process.

In goal for the Generals was Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY), who was fresh off her second national player of the week selection after going 3-0 last week. The sophomore allowed her first two goals of the season, saving four shots in 90 minutes.

Herkimer ends a four-game away stand this Saturday (9/26) when #1 Brookdale Community College visits Wehrum Stadium. The Jersey Blues are undefeated and proven national champions. It will be the Generals second game this season against a ranked opponent. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
