SARANAC LAKE, NY – Outscoring opponents 26-to-0 in their last four games, the #6 Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team defeated North Country Community College 3-0 on Wednesday (9/23) for their fourth consecutive win.

Herkimer (7-2, 0-2) lost their first Mountain Valley Conference game to SUNY Adirondack in overtime two weeks ago. Since that loss, the Generals have gone 3-0 against Fulton-Montgomery, Clinton and now North Country.

Helping the Generals improve on their conference win percentage Wednesday was Kevin Van der Slik (Zoetermeer, Holland) and Brian Vasquez (White Plains, NY). Van der Slik put the Generals on the board in the 16th after teammate Thomas Callister (Castletown, Isle of Man) assisted on Van der Slik’s team-leading eighth goal of the season. The sophomore has scored in six of the team’s eight games this season.

As for Vasquez, the defender got his first multi-goal performance of the season, netting goals in the first and second half on assists from Van der Slik and Moulid Somow (Utica, NY). The first came in the 30th, and the second came in the 75th, helping the sophomore to his third score of the season.

Accumulating his seventh shutout of the season at goalie was Morrice Baker (Bridgeport, CT). The sophomore had one save in 90 minutes and hasn’t allowed a goal in any of the Generals wins this season.

With a week off before their next game, Herkimer will have some time to rest before they play a fourth consecutive game on the road. Next Wednesday (9/30) the Generals will travel to play #10 Hudson Valley Community College. The Vikings are currently 7-1-0 and will be the third ranked opponent the team has faced. You can add Bergen to that list despite not being ranked when they faced Herkimer at home to start the regular season. Game time between Herkimer and Hudson Valley is scheduled for 4 p.m.
