HERKIMER, NY – Held scoreless for the first time since their first two games of the regular season, the #5 Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team lost to #1 Genesee 1-0 in regulation of an NJCAA DIII National Consolation game at Wehrum Stadium on Friday (11/13).

Herkimer (13-4-1, 4-1) lost the lead in the 50th minute after Cougars’ Austin Richardson scored the game’s only goal via a penalty kick. It was Richardson’s 20th goal of the season, breaking a three-game scoreless streak, going to the right side of the net past Herkimer goalie Morrice Baker (Bridgeport, CT).

Genesee almost made it a two-goal advantage 66th, but Baker made an impressive leaping save, on his way to five stops in 90 minutes. As for Genesee goalie Connor Halsted, the sophomore collected his 11th shutout of the season, stopping three shots against the Generals.

Friday’s game between Herkimer and Genesee was a consolation game, so neither team will play for the rest of the national tournament. Herkimer finished the season 13-4-1 and Genesee finished 20-1.
