Herlett breaks record, Generals post eight first place finishes at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, NY – Traveling to Cazenovia College on Sunday (11/15) for their second meet of the season, the Herkimer Generals swimming and diving program totaled eight first place finishes helping the men finish first overall and the women finish second.

The men - who totaled 112 points in their 10 events - amassed seven first place finishes, most of them coming in individual events. In both relays Cameron Roten (Johnstown, NY), Nicholas Lanckton (Holland Patent, NY), Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY) and Jacob Cardinal (Newport, NY) combined to defeat the competition. In the 400 yd. Medley Relay and Freestyle Relay the group captured first place, posting a 4:38.28 in the medley and 3:55.18 in the freestyle.

As for the individual events, Roten took first in the 50 yd. Freestyle (24.77), Cardinal took first place in the 100 yd. Freestyle (59.81), Roten took first in the 100 yd. Backstroke (1:10.47), Lanckton took first place in the 100 yd. Breaststroke (1:18.94) and Nicholas Herlett (Gloversville, NY) took first place in One-meter Diving with 398.35 points. That total broke a school record.

Herkimer’s women swam in one more event that the men, totaling 48 points. Their lone first place finish came in the 1000 yd. Freestyle. Sophomore Corinne Richer (Clinton, NY) swam the event for the first time this season, posting a 13:15.19 which was 25.59 seconds faster than second place.

If you include the women’s second place finishes, they totaled five. Two from relays and three from individual events. Hannah Watts (Norwich, NY), Richer, Jensen VanNostrand (Macedon, NY) and Leah Giacchetta (Rotterdam, NY) competed in the 400 yd. Medley and Freestyle Relays. The group captured second place finishes with a 5:17.86 in the medley and 4:37.23 in the freestyle.

Individually, VanNostrand swam for second place in the 100 yd. Butterfly (1:15.19) and 200 yd. I.M. (2:40.28), while Richer did it in the 500 yd. Freestyle (6:25.03), giving both swimmers two second place finishes on the day.

Up next for the Generals is their home meet on Saturday (11/21). They’ll host the invitational at Cristman Pool with competition slated to start at 1 p.m.
