Ward and Johnson share All-American honors

HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals women’s soccer players Teigha Ward and Grace Johnson have been named All-Americans by the NJCAA.

Ward, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Physical Education major from Ilion, NY had   23 goals and seven assists in 18 game earning. The sophomore tallied four more goals (27) and eight more assists (15), collecting 69 points in the process earning her first team All-American status and ranking second in the nation in both goals and points. She had five multi-goal performances which included three hat tricks.

Johnson, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Science major from Tully had 10 goals and five assists in 15 games for the Generals. She began the season with a hat trick in her first game played, helping defeat Bergen 13-0 in the opener. She had the game winning goals against two nationally ranked opponents in consecutive games. The first was against #1 Brookdale netting the only goal of the game in the 30th minute. The second came against #5 SUNY Broome, after connecting with teammate Michaela Bianca in the 68th minute for her eighth goal of the season.

“It’s an honor to have two of my best players selected as All-Americans,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ryan Brooks-Newton. “For Teigha, it’s the second time, which is very rare, and we’re hoping the same for Grace as well. The hard work these two put in paid off.”
