HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team had six All-Region selections in 2015, two of them were first team and four were second team members.

The first team selections were Femi Kaffo (London, England) and Connor Doogan (Belfast, Ireland). Both sophomores helped Herkimer rank Top 5 in every statistical category but shots and shots-on-goal percentage in the region. The team ranked second in shots (297), third in goals scored (64), second in shots per game (15.6), 10th in shots on goal (66), second in assists (53), first in corner kicks (118) and first in shutouts (10). Of those totals, Kaffo managed six goals and nine assists, while Doogan had five goals which equates to 10 points. Kaffo’s nine assists was the sixth best total in the region.

Rounding out the second team for the Generals was Brian Vasquez (White Plains, NY), Eddie Speed (Chester, Liverpool), Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) and Maans Soerensen (Stockholm, Sweden). Both Vasquez and Speed helped the Generals more on the offensive side, combining for nine goals and six assists. Vasquez had seven goals and two assists from that total in 15 games, going on a hot streak offensively in September and October, netting goals in five of eight games with multiple goal efforts against North Country and Jefferson. Speed added two goals and four assists, helping the team to a perfect 4-0 record in every game he tallied an assist, outscoring opponents 22-to-1. Somow - just like Speed - did a lot of his damage distributing to other teammates, totaling eight assists in 19 games. That figure was the eighth best in the region.

As for Sorensen, the freshman managed one goal and four assists in 15 games, but more importantly helped the team allow only two goals all season in their 13 wins. It was an added bonus when the defender tallied three assists in the span of four games throughout October. It helped the team collect four consecutive wins, totaling eight consecutive in the span of a month from September 12th to October 14th.

“To have six players selected to the All-Region Team is amazing,” said Head Men’s Soccer Coach Pepe Aragon. “Each did their part in every game, helping our program to its 27th consecutive Region III Championship.”
