Nicolay helps swimming sweep Green & Gold in December
HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals swimmer MaryEllen Nicolay of Watervliet, NY was named Green & Gold Female Athlete of the Month for December.
Nicolay, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Psychology major at Herkimer College, competed in two events at Monroe Community College in the program’s only meet of December. The freshman captured ninth and 14th place in the 100 yd. and 50 yd. Freestyle respectively. Ninth place came in the 100, posting a 1:28.45, and 14th came in the 50, posting a 44.10.
“Mary came to us as a first time swimmer – never swimming competitively before,” said Head Swimming & Diving Coach Vicki Brown. “Since the beginning she has put forth 100 percent effort in each practice, seeking feedback and help with no complains. So far this season, Mary has dropped over two seconds in the 50 FR, over five seconds in the 100 FR and over 12 seconds in the 100 BA!”
