Generals drop conference game to Raiders at home

HERKIMER, NY – Playing in their seventh consecutive Mountain Valley conference game, this time at home on Monday (2/8), the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team lost to Fulton-Montgomery 78-49.

Herkimer (9-10, 5-6) battled with the Raiders throughout the first half, almost erasing an eight point deficit after the first quarter (15-7) when the team opened the second on a 15-to-4 run. Khristaijah Jackson (Philadelphia, PA), Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY) and Emerald Pett (Utica, NY) each sank shots from the charity stripe, then Diamonique Franklin (Long Island City, NY) and Angela Porcelli (Marlboro, NY) collected three field goals which dropped the lead to 19-17.

It stayed at three points after Jackson assisted to Franklin (22-19), then Jackson got an assist from Wallace (24-21), but the Raiders ended the half on a 7-to-2 run which helped them build an eight point lead (31-23) into intermission.

In the second half, the game quickly got away from Herkimer, finding themselves down 15 (45-30) with 6:37 left in the third, then down 21 (62-41) by the end of the quarter. In the fourth, the deficit got to 30 a couple times before the game finalized at 29 points (78-49).

Herkimer will play another conference game on Wednesday (2/10) when SUNY Adirondack comes to town for a matchup at 5 p.m. The Timberwolves are 10-13 overall and 1-7 in their last eight. One of them came in a loss to Herkimer at home 60-58.
