Our third ranked Herkimer Generals Men’s Soccer team hosted the Erie Community College Kats last Saturday evening October 8th.  The Generals played well throughout the entire game but the Erie Kats goalie Noah Smith was able to lock down the net in the first 45 minutes.  Smith produced some jaw dropping saves the first half of the game leaving Herkimer scoreless.  Herkimer and Erie were deadlocked at the half 0-0, but it was the Generals who returned with fire.

In just the second 45 minutes the Herkimer Generals scored a remarkable seven goals.  The first two came from the dynamic duo of #8 Jordan Saling (Haledon, NJ) and #24 Luke Murphy (Glasgow, NY).  Saling was later able to assist sophomore midfielder #9 Mike Pope (East Longmeadow, MA) in Herkimer’s 3rd goal.  The dynamic duo of Saling and Murphy met again for the fourth goal of the half at the 69th minute.  A few seconds later Murphy was granted a penalty kick which he netted making the score 5-0.  Just three minutes later freshman defender #17 Ferguson Ward (London, England) was playing the midfield and dribbled a circle around three defenders.  He put a strong boot on the ball to the back of the net for Herkimer’s sixth goal.  Herkimer wasn’t finished.  The Generals’ final statement was the seventh goal scored with just seconds left in the game by #12 Willie Meyer (Red Creek, NY) assisted by #3 Chris Cornwill (Sunshine Coast, Queensland).
