Generals Sweep Lazers 10-2 and 12-4

Syracuse NY- On Thursday, the Herkimer Generals women’s softball team traveled to take on Region foe, the Onondaga CC Lazers. The Generals jumped out ahead in game one, scoring 6 runs in the top half of the first inning. Herkimer tacked on 4 more runs to win 10-2 in 6 innings. In game two, the Generals had a huge second inning, scoring 7 runs to down the Lazers 12-4, in the 5 inning night capper.

The Herkimer offense was led in game one by Lexi Van Patten (Niskayuna, NY) and Nayana DeAmelia (Warrensburg, NY). Van Patten went 2-3 with 2 runs with 3 stolen bases, while DeAmelia went 3-3 with 3 RBI’s, 1 run scored and 2 stolen bases. In game two, Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, NY) crushed a 2 run home run in the 7 run, second inning propelling the Generals to the Region III sweep.

Starting pitchers, Madison Puppolo (Adams, NY) and Elora Wilmot (Cazenovia, NY) picked up the wins for the Generals. Puppalo went 5 innings allowing only 2 runs while racking up 6 strikeouts. Hannah Derock (Hunt, NY) pitched a perfect 6th inning, striking out the side. Wilmot struck out 8 in 3 innings of work allowing 3 earned runs, while Jordan Cole (Ronkonkoma, NY) struck out 3 in her 2 innings of work, not allowing an earned run in her outing.

The Generals move to 15-5-1 and will travel to take on Mohawk Valley on Tuesday (4/19).
