McAvoy earns Player of Year and MVP in Nationals

HERKIMER, NY – Ending the story book season at Wehrum Stadium as NJCAA DIII National Champs this past Sunday, the Herkimer Men's Soccer team had a slew of accolades awarded to them, for both the coaches and the players.

A top the list was Head Coach Pepe Aragon and Captain Peter McAvoy (Dundee, Scotland). Aragon, whose team finished with a 17-1 overall record, was named Co-Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year. McAvoy, who scored 15 goals this season, was named Player of the Year in the Mountain Valley Conference, Most Valuable Player in the NJCAA DIII National Tournament, the All-Region Team and was also a member of the All-Conference Team.

Aragon and McAvoy however weren't the only Generals who earn accolades in 2013. Jimmy Calderon (New Rochelle, NY), Mitchel White (Leicestershire, UK) and Triston Henry (Scarborough, Ont.) all made it to the All-Conference Team and All-Tournament Team in the NJCAA DIII National Tournament. Calderon had one goal and seven assists in 2013, White had one assist and Henry had 61 saves, 13 shutouts and one assist.

Rounding out the awards, more specifically, making it to the All-Region and All-Conference team were Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) and Brian Coyt (Port Chester, NY). Windster scored 10 goals and had eight assists, but also had the only hat-trick of the season. Coyt scored six goals and had three assists, but more importantly earned MVP honors in the Regional Tournament, scoring three goals.
