Generals have four compete in Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, NY – The Herkimer Generals Track & Field team had five runners travel to SUNY Cortland on Friday (4/18) for the Cortland Classic. Four participants finished in the Top 10 in the three events competed with Victoria Campanian (Glenfield, NY) taking first place in the 10,000-meter run.

Campanian, a freshman finished in 40:25.89, 24 seconds better than Mohawk Valley’s Andrea Szewczyk. Her teammate Haruka Murakami (Ibaraki, Japan) finished five spots behind her, posting a time of 43:41.69.

Freshman Sam Morrett (Cohes, NY) also ran in the 10,000-meter run for the men, finishing in eighth place with a time of 36:05.13.

The only student-athlete for Herkimer to compete in the decathlon was Joseph Shinn (New Rochelle, NY). The sophomore competed in 10 events, the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, 1500-meter run, long jump, high jump, discus, pole vault, javelin and shot put. Shinn collected 5,401 points which was good enough for eighth place.
