Rexford hat trick guides Generals past Cougars

HERKIMER, NY – Righting the ship after their first loss of the season, the Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team netted eight goals on Saturday (9/20) at Wehrum Stadium, defeating Clinton Community College 8-0 to remain undefeated in the Mountain Valley Conference.

Herkimer (5-1) was without two key starters Saturday, but it didn’t stop them from straying away from their game plan. Taking advantage of that of that was sophomore Emily Rexford (Canton, NY). In her first action of the season, Rexford netted three goals in the matter of 47 minutes on assists from Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY) and Zaira Pabon (Liberty, NY).

Joining Rexford with more than one goal in the game was Danielle Nicosia (Oneonta, NY). The sophomore has an impressive streak of netting at least two goals in her last four games. She got Herkimer’s first and last goal of the first half on assists from Skyler Viveros (St. Johnsville, NY) and Pabon, helping the team to a 5-0 lead at intermission.

Scoring one goal in the game was Ward, Pabon and Presley Bryant (Dekalb Juntion, NY). Ward scored her team leading ninth goal in the 32nd minute to make it 4-0. Pabon scored her second goal of the season in the 53rd to make it 7-0. Bryant scored her first goal of the season in the 88th on an assist to make it 8-0.

Starting at goalie for injured Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY) was Cassandra Grippe (Frankfort, NY). In her first start of the season the freshman saved two shots and got her first shutout of the season.

The Generals next game is on Wednesday, September 24th. It will be the second game of a three game home stand. Herkimer will host North Country at Wehrum Stadium with play beginning at 4:30 p.m.
