Five goals from Polk season-high in win

HERKIMER, NY – Seeing a hat trick accomplished within the first four minutes of Saturday’s (9/20) game by sophomore Ben Polk (Banbury, UK) set the tone against Mountain Valley Conference opponent Clinton Community College, handing the Cougars a 14-0 loss by the end of regulation.

Herkimer (7-0-1) had eight different Generals score in regulation, mounting a 7-0 lead by intermission. As referenced, Polk got his second hat trick of the season within the first four minute of play, finishing the game with five goals and one assist. The midfielder now has 19 goals which is the most in the nation.

Other contributors in the first half were Rodrigo Guerra (Newburgh, NY) and Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland). Guerra made it 5-0 in the 29th on an assist from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY). Windster netted his lone goal of the game in the 43rd to make it 6-0, on an assist from Polk. Guerra now has three goals and Windster has five goals on the season.

In the second half with all the starters on the bench, Herkimer got contributions from five different players, equaling the output of the starters in the second half. Netting two goal in the final 45 minutes were MacIntyre Felton (Vestal, NY) and Yuu Sasaki (Funabashi, Japan). Felton scored his first two goals of the season in the 51st and 80th on assists from Harold Marin (Bridgeport, CT) and Ocasio Brown (Bridgeport, CT). As for Sasaki, he scored two goals in the matter of two minutes in the 59th and 61st minute to make it 11-0. Assisting on both goals was Femi Kaffo (London, England).

Scoring one goal for Herkimer was Kaffo, Preston Higgins (Port Chester, NY) and Jeff Castaneda (Franklin Square, NY). Kaffo scored his fourth of the season in the 56th to make it 9-0. Higgins scored his fourth in the 79th, giving him four goals in Herkimer’s last four games. And Castaneda scored his fourth of the season in the 84th on an assist from Higgins to make it 14-0.

In goal for Herkimer against Clinton was Austin Santor (Chazy, NY) and Morrice Baker (Manchester, Jamaica). Santor was the only one to register a save, giving him four shutouts this season, ranking him Top 10 in the nation in goals against (3), goal against average (0.70) and wins (6).

The Generals next game is Wednesday (9/24). They’ll host North Country Community College to Wehrum Stadium with a start time scheduled for 7 p.m.
