HERKIMER, NY – Sophomore Ben Polk was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month in September. Polk, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Generals Studies major at Herkimer College, has helped the men’s soccer team maintain their No. 1 ranking throughout the season, supplying 23 goals for the Generals in 11 games which is second-best in the nation.

Polk, a resident of Banbury, England, has been a force at forward scoring two or more goals in nine games, recording a hat trick twice against both Onondaga and Clinton. More impressive than that, the sophomore accumulated three goals against the Cougars in three minutes of play, finishing with a career-high five goals in the first half which led to a Generals 14-0 victory.

Polk has five game-winning goals this season. It has helped the Generals remained undefeated on the season against DIII competition, giving defenses a lot to handle. His Head Coach Pepe Aragon reiterated that saying, “Ben is an explosive forward who has the combination of great skill, strength and speed. His abilities have translated well on the field, and we’re hoping this is only the beginning with playoffs right around the corner!”
