Generals end regular season with another ranked opponent

WATERTOWN, NY – Winning yet another close game on the road, the Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team improved their current win streak to seven, defeating Jefferson Community College 1-0 Wednesday (10/15) afternoon.

Herkimer (11-1, 6-0) might have only scored one goal against the Canoneers, but the team racked up 17 shots, giving goalie Katie Aldrich a busy afternoon. Scoring the lone goal for Herkimer was freshman Teigha Ward (Ilion, NY). In the 53rd Alyssa Lepper (Remsen, NY) found Ward for her team-leading 22nd goal of the season. Ward is now fourth in the nation and first in the Region III in goals.

Starting at goalie for Herkimer was Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY). The freshman had six saves, getting her fifth shutout of the season.

The Generals final regular season games is this Saturday (10/18). They’ll travel to Batavia, NY to take on Genesee Community College. The Cougars are currently ranked eighth in the nation and third in the region. It will be Herkimer’s fifth nationally ranked opponent they’ve faced this season. The team is 4-0 currently against ranked opponents defeating Holyoke, Onondaga, Hudson Valley and Mohawk Valley. It will be a tough test. Genesee has scored 65 goals this season, which is the third highest in the nation. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
