HERKIMER, NY – The Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team had three players nominated to the 2014 All-Region Team in November. First-team members were Danielle Nicosia and Teigha Ward; second team was Nicole Doolen.

Together the three players helped the women’s soccer team to a 13-2 record thus far in the season, never losing a game in the Mountain Valley Conference in seven games (7-0). Nicosia was second on the team in goals and assists with 12 and eight respectively, coming up big in the Region III Tournament with three goals. The last one was against Hudson Valley in the Region III ‘A’ Championship, collecting her third game-winner of the season in a 2-0 win at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Ward, a resident of Ilion, NY, led the Generals in 2014 with 23 goals, 10 of them game-winners which is currently second best in the nation amongst DIII competition. The forward, known more for her scoring, accumulated three assists in the regional tournament, helping win at home and on the road, outscoring opponents 5-to-0 in two games.

The last nominee was Doolen, to the second team. The freshman defender not only helped Herkimer concede six goals all season against DIII team’s, but had her best offensive game in the Region III Championship, managing one goal and assist in the first half. It was only the second time all season Doolen had one goal and assist in 90 minutes of play.

“Dani, Teigha and Nicole have made my job a lot easier this season,” said Head Women’s Soccer Coach Ryan Brooks-Newton. “Each has a different skill set which gives me a multitude of options when making a game plan, but more important, all three have helped create a family atmosphere. That has done a lot in gelling our team, making us better from top-to-bottom.”
