Swimming & Diving does well in final regular season meet at Monroe
(Herkimer's Rhiannon Steele finished the 100 yd. Freestyle on Saturday in 10th place).
ROCHESTER, NY – In their first meet after over a month of competition, the Herkimer Generals swimming and diving team returned to Monroe Community College on Saturday (1/17). The men finished fifth overall and the women finish third.
Competing in all three events for the men was Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY). The freshman cracked the Top 5 in both the 100 yd. Breaststroke and 200 yd. Backstroke, coming one spot away from his third Top 5 in the 100 yd. Backstroke where he posted a 1:09.53.
The women logged eight Top 5 finishes, six individually and two in relays. Sophomore Erin Hutchison (Macedon, NY) was the only General to get multiple individual Top 5 finishes at Monroe. She had two fourth place finishes in the 100yd. and 200 yd. Breaststroke and a third place finish in the 200 yd. Individual Medley (2:44.07). Victoria Bemiss (Canaan, NY), Hannah Watts (Norwich, NY) and Kelly O’Hern (Holland Paten, NY) followed with Top 5 finishes in the 100 yd. Backstroke, 200 yd. Backstroke and 100 yd. Butterfly.
Watts, Hutchison, O’Hern and Bemiss then combined to place third in both the 400 yd. Medley Relay (5:31.24) and 800 yd. Freestyle Relay (11:00.46).
The swimming and diving team has two more meets to qualify for regional competition. On Saturday, January 24th the team will travel to SUNY Delhi for the second time this season. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
