More qualifiers for nationals in Genesee meet
BATAVIA, NY – In their final meet of the regular season, the Herkimer Generals swimming & diving program performed well at the Genesee Last Chance Meet, posting 12 best times which included qualifying times for nationals in three events.
Dean Schrider (Holland Patent, NY) and Victoria Bemiss (Canaan, NY) were the two Generals who captured spots at nationals, which is hosted in Buffalo, NY in 2015. Schrider did it in the 200 yd. Freestyle and 100 yd. Breaststroke, posting a 2:07.96 in the 200 and 1:18.44 in the 100. Bemiss did hers in the 100 yd. Freestyle, posting a 1:10.62.
After Schrider and Bemiss, Corinne Richer (Clinton, NY) and Erin Hutchison (Macedon, NY) had solid weekends. Richer had three first place finishes in the 200 yd. Freestyle (2:17.57), 500 yd. Freestyle (6:12.53) and 200 yd. Backstroke (2:35.79). Hutchison had a first place and two third place finishes in the 100 yd. Breaststroke (1:25.38), 50 yd. Freestyle (31.03) and 200 yd. Breaststroke (3:03.38).
Both Richer and Hutchison also helped the Generals to second place finishes in the 200 yd. Medley Relay (2:23.31) and 400 yd. Freestyle Relay (5:26.18).
Herkimer’s next meet is at Monroe Community College, this year’s host for the Region III Championship. Competition begins on Friday, February 13th, concluding on Sunday, February 15th.
