Ward nets career-high seven goals in win over Owls
HERKIMER, NY – Scoring her most goals to date as a General, Herkimer’s Teigha Ward scored seven times on Sunday (8/30) to help the #3 Generals defeat Union County at Wehrum Stadium 8-0, going unbeaten in the Coliseum Classic Tournament.
Ward - who is from Ilion, NY – scored all of her goals in the first half against the Owls within the first 30 minutes of the game on assists from Nicole Doolen (Ilion, NY), Alyssa Lepper (Remsen, NY) and Michaela Bianca (Guilderland, NY). The average length per goal was three minutes, helping the forward to 11 goals in her first two regular season games. To put it in perspective, Ward had 23 goals in 18 games in 2014, which ranked eighth nationally.
Scoring the final goal of the game was Doolen. The midfielder scored in the 79th minute on an assist from Bianca. It was Bianca’s fourth assist of the game, finishing the tournament with three goals and five assists.
In goal for Herkimerr was Sydney Stanley (Schoharie, NY). The sophomore saved one shot in 90 minutes, recording her second shutout of the season and ninth as a General.
Up next is Onondaga Community College on Thursday (9/3). Herkimer will travel to take on the 1-1 Lazers in their first away game of the season. The schedules start is 4:30 p.m.
