HERKIMER, NY – Continuing their solid play at home throughout the regular season, the Herkimer Generals women’s basketball team defeated Schenectady County on Wednesday (2/17) 82-76 in regulation to improve their home record to 8-4.

Herkimer (12-10, 7-6) got a big game from sophomore Khristaijah Jackson (Philadelphia, NY). The center tallied her fourth 30-point game of the season, hitting 16 field goals to come one point shy of her season-high of 39 scored against Tompkins Cortland back in November.

Joining Jackson in double figures was freshman Emerald Pett (Utica, NY). The forward did most of her damage in the second half, scoring 10 of her 19 total points in the second half, most of them on assists from Kristy Wallace (Frankfort, NY).

With Jackson and Pett supplying the offensive fire power, Herkimer went into halftime with a five point (35-30) lead. It ballooned to double digits (46-34) after Angela Porcelli (Marlboro, NY) hit her only three-point field goal of the game in the first five minutes of the third.

It remained double digits into the fourth quarter until the Royals came to life in the final four minutes of regulation, erasing a once 14-point deficit to six points (79-73). Sophomore Alexandria Hardy (Kerhonkson, NY) put Schenectady away after she collected her own miss from the charity stripe with 37.2 left and scored to give Herkimer a 82-73 lead. Hardy finished the game with nine.

Schenectady hit the final basket of the game, a three pointer, totaling 12 in the game, but lost by five to fall to 10-13 overall on the season.

As for Herkimer, they are currently 12-10 and riding a three-game winning streak into their final regular season game against North Country. The Generals will travel to play the Saints on Saturday (2/20) with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
