Generals Overpower Timberwolves

Tonight’s game versus the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves led to be one of Herkimer’s best performances on the pitch as they outscored their opponent 8-1.  Leading scorer Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) upheld her reputation putting away 5 out of the Generals’ 8 goals.  Two of which were unassisted and three were assisted by freshmen #11 Danielle Charland and #7 Jenna Rogers, and the third by sophomore #6 Alexys Bolton.  All of Blumenstock’s goals were earned in the first half when the Generals left the score 6-0.  The other goal of the half was scored by sophomore midfielder #10 Grace Johnson.  Johnson finished a ball placed perfectly in front of the net by sophomore #19 Christine DiVirgilio.

The Generals wasted no time scoring their seventh goal just seven minutes into the second half unassisted by midfielder #3 Alyse Griffin.   Timberwolves forward #18 Jana Bickley refused the shutout and scored the only goal for SUNY Adirondack with 28 minutes left in the game.  Quickly answering back Herkimer freshman forward #7 Jenna Rogers put away the final goal for the Generals leaving the score 8-1.

The Generals’ offense played the ball well and held possession in their offensive half for the majority of the game.  They moved the ball effectively and were able to take advantage of the holes they created in the Timberwolves’ defense.  Head coach Jason Palkovic stated after the game, “We executed well, moving the ball around just like we practice, and it paid off.”

The Herkimer Generals will host Tompkins Cortland Community College in their next game Wednesday (9/14) at 4:30pm.
