The Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team defeated the Clinton Community College Cougars in Saturday’s Region III match up 10-1.  The offense was efficient and effective as they found the holes in the Cougars’ defense.

The Generals started the afternoon off strong as seven of their ten goals were earned in the first half.  Freshman #32 Isaak Somow (Utica, NY) scored the first two goals, one unassisted and the other assisted by #12 Will Meyer (Red Creek, NY).  In the 13th minute Herkimer’s third goal came from #8 Jordan Sailing (Haledon, NJ) assisted by freshman #24 Luke Murphy (Glasgow, Scotland).  Just a few short minutes later Meyer scored his first goal of the day assisted by #13 Camilo Avendano (Cape Coral, FL).  #8 Sailing and #23 Gianni Cognata (Cape Coral, FL) kept the offense rolling scoring the fifth and sixth goals of the game unassisted in the 26th and 32nd minute.  Just four minutes later Meyer scored his final goal of the game assisted by Avendano.  This concluded Herkimer’s offensive reign in the first half over the Cougars.

The second half Herkimer’s #34 Selmir Muskic (Utica, NY) was able to produce three assists for his teammates #3 Chris Cornwill (Sunshine Coast, Queensland), #21 Felipe Moreira (Ossining, NY), and #20 Luke Wakeling (Rayleigh, England). Late in the second half the Cougars refused the shutout as #13 Ben Frederick scored their only goal leaving the final score 10-1.
