Cross Country Competes in SUNY Poly 4th Annual Wildcat Weekend Classic

Herkimer Generals men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Utica, NY and competed in SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s 4th annual Wildcat Weekend Classic Invitational Race.  Herkimer was one of 20 teams running and finished two runners in the top twenty women’s 6K (3.7 mile) race, and one runner in the men’s top twenty 8K (5 mile) race.

The top female finisher for Herkimer Chyanna Bernier (Ilion, NY) ran an amazing race finishing 4th overall out of 75 finishers on an injured leg none the less.  Herkimer women’s cross country placed 7th out of 9 teams but finished as a top team amongst other junior colleges.  Herkimer women earned a team score of 150 points on the day.

The top male runner for Herkimer Brandon Rawson (Ilion, NY) placed 14th overall out of 113 finishers in the men’s 8K race.  Rawson not only lead his team in this race but he also set a new 8K personal record which beat his previous record by more than two minutes.  Rawson wasn’t the only one setting a new legacy this time around.  Sophomore Taj Parker (Mt. Vernon, NY)  improved his time by more than seven minutes as compared to his time for last year’s Wildcat Weekend Classic Invitational.  Also freshman Ryan Brown made his cross country collegiate debut Saturday (9/24) as he helped his team earn a total of 218 points overall which gave them 8th place out of 11 teams and a third place finish amongst other junior colleges.

The Generals cross country team now look forward to their next meet at home, Saturday (10/1) race begins at 10am.
