Men's Soccer Progresses to Regional Championship

The first seeded Herkimer Generals Men’s Soccer team hosted the eighth seed Fulton-Montgomery Raiders tonight in the NJCAA Region IIIA semifinal game.  Each team came out of the gate ready to fight for their season as this playoff game determined who would advance to the Regional Championship game at Tompkins Cortland this Sunday.

Herkimer spent the majority of the first half in control of the ball in their offensive half but they weren’t first to tack one up on the scoreboard.  Fulton-Montgomery Raider #9 Justin Estremera was the first player of the game to score as he earned a break away and shot it just out of the reach of Herkimer goalie Sean Connolly.  Herkimer answered back two-fold as #10 Dajhal Kelly (Saint Kitts, Caribbean Sea) was able to help his team take the lead 2-1 by the end of the half.  Kelly’s first goal was a well-placed header from a feed by #13 Camilo Avendano (Cape Coral, FL).  His second came from an assist by #32 Issak Somow (Utica, NY) just six minutes later.  The score remained 2-1 until the middle of the second half when Somow netted the last goal of the game from an assist by #8 Jordan Saling (Haledon, NJ).

Herkimer will now advance to the Region IIIA Championship game hosted by Tompkins Cortland Community College Sunday (10/30) at 1pm versus the 5th seeded Erie Kats.
