Herkimer, NY--  It was a bittersweet ending for the Herkimer Generals women's basketball team.  With no chance at a Region III chase the Generals played like they had nothing to lose and it paid off.  Herkimer came out of the locker room strong holding a lead throughout most of the first quarter.  It wasn't until 3:15 left in the first when the Saints of North Country tied up the score 13 all.  Possessions bounced back and forth and the Generals finished the first ten minutes leading 18-17.

The second half continued to be a battle.  Herkimer started to gain the most substantial lead of the game thus far with just 4 minutes left in the half, up 31-26.  Saints' guard #5 Romeira Tucker (Philadelphia, PA), North Country's leading scorer with 26 this game, went on a run to tie it up 31-31.  She then continued on the next possession to sink a three giving them their first lead of the second quarter 34-31.  Herkimer General #2 Sierra Henry (Newfield, NY) sank a short jumper to close the deficit 34-33 at the half.  Henry proved to be the difference maker this game scoring a season high 27 points including six baskets from beyond the arc.

Another Herkimer high scorer was #24 Jazmin Diggs (Poughkeepsie, NY) whose ruthless hands on defense picked many steals which turned into easy fast break buckets.  Diggs walked away from the game earning an astonishing 20 points.  Herkimer's unsung hero this game was definitely sophomore forward #10 Emerald Pett (Utica, NY) whose long limbs and incredible effort awarded her double digit rebounds which allotted Herkimer many extra chances on offense.  Herkimer's Head Coach Jerry Smith stated to his team before the game, "It has been an honor coaching these girls and I thank them for their effort and strength through a difficult time in my life, outside of basketball."  The Generals end their season with a final record of 8-17.
