Tough loss on the road for the Generals

Blumenstock 1

Corning, N.Y. - The Generals traveled to Corning Sunday for a battle of top teams in the region.  It was slow going for the Generals as they conceded a goal seven minutes in with a wayward shot finding its way just under the crossbar from 30 yards out.  Twelve minutes later the ladies would answer. Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville, NY) played a through ball to Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) to even the game. Five minutes after tying it up, Herkimer would find themselves behind again after a penalty kick was awarded and converted by Corning. Sarah George (Dolgeville, NY) would even it once more once again from a Hailey Couchman pass. The first half would finish as a 2-2 tie.

In the second half only one goal would determine the outcome as Corning pulled ahead for good on a deflected shot that caught Herkimer’s Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) going the other way. The game would finish 3-2 handing the Generals their first loss on the season. Coach Palkovic said after, “It is extremely tough going on the road in our region to play another top team. We have to come and play every game. You can’t have a let down. But to still be in a game when we didn’t play very well is encouraging. The girls tried to fight through the heat and calls. We learn from it and move forward.”

Herkimer will travel to Hudson Valley CC on 9/27 for an exciting league match up.  Kickoff is expected to begin at 4 pm.  The Generals will be looking for a win to get back on track.
