Pete McAvoy Night Tuesday October 17th

Pete McAvoy Night for Men’s & Women’s Soccer Games

The Herkimer men’s and women’s soccer teams will be honoring Pete McAvoy on Tuesday, October 17th in their games against Finger Lakes CC.  Pete passed away on April 19th, 2014 from an undiagnosed heart condition.  The men’s team will be taking Pete McAvoy t-shirt orders to raise money for the Cardiac Risk in the Young organization.  His father Peter McAvoy along with family and friends have raised thousands and thousands of dollars for the CRY organization.  CRY offers screening to all young people between the ages of 14 & 35.  It is a way to diagnose most cardiac abnormalities.

Pete captained the Generals to two straight National Championships in 2012 & 2013.  In his senior year he scored the game winning goals in the national quarter final, semifinals and National Championship Game.  McAvoy was named the 2013 NSCAA National Player of the Year.

“Pete was by far the best captain that I have ever coached in my twenty years.”  Said Coach Pepe Aragon.  He was an unbelievable leader both on and off the field.

The Coliseum Celtic FC u-13 boys’ soccer team will be walking both men’s teams out for starting line-ups and national anthem.  They will also be playing at halftime.  They carry the team name Celtic after Pete’s favorite professional soccer team Celtic in Scotland.
