Generals swimming well into final meet
DELHI, NY – The Herkimer Generals Swimming & Diving team continued the second half of their season last Saturday (1/25) at SUNY Delhi, with the men’s placing third (90 points) and the women placing second (220 points).
The men competed in five events at the Broncos’ facility, placing in the Top 5 in four events. Brandon Paul (Gloversville, NY) and David Stanley (Bronx, NY) captured two second-place and one third place finishes in the 50 yd. Freestyle, 100 yd. Freestyle and 200 yd. Backstroke. Paul had the second place finish in the 50 yd. Freestyle (25.69) while Stanley had the second-place finish the 200 yd. Backstroke (2:29.87) and third-place finish in the 100 yd. Freestyle (1:01.35). The final Top 5 finishes came in the 100 yd. Breaststroke by Paul (1:23.92) and 100 yd. Freestyle by Austin Davis (Frankfort, NY). Davis finished the 100 yd. Freestyle in 1:15.61.
As for the women, they had another solid week, capturing 13 Top 3 finishes in 11 events. Leading the way was sophomore Kristin Reynolds (Sherburne-Earlville, NY). She finished in first place in the three events; the 100 yd. Backstroke (1:10.08), 200 yd. Butterfly (2:48.97) and 500 yd. Freestyle (6:25.06). After Reynolds, the only other Generals to capture first-place finishes were Erin Hutchison (Macedon, NY) and Kaitlin Winnie (Accord, NY). Hutchison placed first in the 1650 yd. Freestyle (22:48.86) and Winnie placed first in the 50 yd. Freestyle (27.31) and 100 yd. Freestyle (1:01.36).
Second place finishes came in the 400 yd. Individual Medley by Hutchison, 200 yd. Backstroke by Alexandra Whalen (New Hartford, NY), 500 yd. Freestyle by Whalen, and 800 yd. Freestyle Relay by Hutchison Winnie, Reynolds and Whalen.
Third place finishes came in the 200 yd. Freestyle by Whalen (2:43.45), 100 yd. Backstroke by Winnie (1:11.35) and 100 yd. Breaststroke by Hutchison (1:30.01),
Tianderah Twichell (West Winfield, NY) also competed for the Generals on Saturday, adding two Top 5 finishes in the 100 yd. and 200 yd. Breaststroke.
The Generals next meet is against Genesee Community College on Saturday (2/1). The Cougars will host the Generals at 1 p.m.
