Men's Soccer Players receive awards in Chicago

Chicago, Illinois – Three Herkimer soccer players received their all-American awards in Chicago, Illinois this weekend at the United Soccer Coaches all-American luncheon.  Sophomore Marius Svendsen (Drammen, Norway) was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division III first team.  Sophomores Chris Capaldo (Smithtown, NY) and Andre Blanco (Cape Coral, Florida) were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Men’s Scholar all American first and second Team.

Svendsen, a center back led a defense that allowed only 9 goals and had 12 shutouts on the season.  He was also named the Mountain Valley Conference player of the year and First team all-Region III.  Capaldo a forward recorded 12 goals and 4 assists for 28 points on the season was named to the first team.  He was also named first team all-Region III, Mountain Valley Conference and named to the all-tournament team in the Region III play-offs.  Blanco was part of a defense that allowed only 9 goals and had 12 shutouts on the season was named to the second team. 

 “I am so proud of the guys.  Said Coach Pepe Aragon.  They are a great representation of our college and program.  All three are not only great players, but students as well.  I am confident that they will be very successful at their four year schools.”
