Batavia, NY – The Herkimer men’s soccer team defeated Cayuga CC 2-1 in overtime to win the Region III A championship at Genesee CC.  Sophomore Ryheim Hinds (Bridgeport, Connecticut) scored the first goal of the game in the 43rd minute off an assist from sophomore Gian-Luca Fahling (Domat, Switzerland).  Fahling served the ball in off a set piece to Hinds who finished off a first time volley from eight yards out to put the Generals up 1-0.  Cayuga tied the game up in the 56th minute of a corner kick.  The Spartans Matthew Devlin scored off a missed clearance from the Generals to tie the game up.

Sophomore Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) scored the game winner with three minutes left in the first overtime off a deflection shot from sophomore Mupenzi Irakiza (Syracuse, NY).  Irikaza took a shot from eighteen yards outs that took a deflection off a Cayuga defender for the first time finish from Blair for the game winner.  Hinds was named the tournament most valuable player and Blair, sophomore Tyler Dobinson (Exmouth, England) and goalkeeper Tinius Klausen (Oslo, Norway) were named to the Region III all-tournament team.
