Herkimer Women's Soccer has multiple Student-Athletes earn NJCAA Recognition

Tayler Clark vs Nassau

Herkimer, NY—The Herkimer Generals women’s soccer team continues to reel in accolades early into the 2019 season. Three more players—freshmen Tayler Clark, Kayla Suppa, and Kara Steacy—were recognized for their performance this past week.

Midfielder/forward Suppa was named NJCAA Region III Player of the Week. Suppa, of Oneida, N.Y., was a force up top, racking up five goals and one assist in wins against SUNY Adirondack on Sept. 4 and Columbia-Greene Community College on Sept. 8, while playing just under 45 minutes in each game. She has helped the Generals to a 5-0 record and a No. 5 national ranking.

Clark is one of two players for the Generals to have a point in every game so far this season, showing her exceptional work in the midfield. For her efforts, the Poland, N.Y., native was named United Soccer Coaches Association National Junior College Player of the Week.

Steacy was named NJCAA National Goalkeeper of the Week. Steacy has given up just one goal so far this season while helping post three shutouts and pushing the No. 5 nationally ranked Generals to a 5-0 record. Steacy was a standout keeper at Cincinnatus High School.

“It is always great to have your players getting recognized for what they are doing,” Head Coach Jason Palkovic said of the awards. “I am extremely happy for them and the team. As I have said before, this really is a reflection of not just what these three ladies are doing but how the team has been playing. They would be the first ones to tell you that. But tremendous accomplishments for them as they have earned it. I am proud of them and this team.”

The news comes on the coattails of sophomore midfielder Kristen Purcell being named NJCAA Women’s Soccer National Player of the Week and Region III Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 19-2
