# 2 Herkimer Softball opens season with road sweep of Monroe College

New Rochelle, NY - Finally!

Its been a long 22 months since the Herkimer Generals softball team took the field, but the #2 Nationally Ranked Generals didn't seem to miss a beat at they traveled to New Rochelle, NY on Saturday March 20th and swept a doubleheader from Monroe College. Herkimer won Game 1 by a score of 17-3 and then took the nightcap by a score of 12-1.

In Game 1, the Generals scored 6 runs each in the 2nd and 4th innings in the blowout win. Olivia Guy (Rome, NY) had 2 hits, including a 2-run home run and Alexis Garrison (Clifton Park, NY) also picked up 2 hits while knocking in 3. Alexis Van Patten (Niskayuna, NY) made her only hit count, blasting a 2 run home run in the 4th inning. Freshman Madison Ihnat (Boca Raton, FL) pitched 5 no-hit innings in her Herkimer debut, striking out 6 while only walking 3.

It was more of the same in Game 2 as Herkimer used a 7 run 6th inning to put the game out of reach. The big blow that inning was a 3 run homer by Kayla Young (Baldwinsville, NY), which was part of a 2 hit, 5 RBI for her. Hannah DeRock (Hunt, NY) got the win on the bump, scattering 5 hits over 6 innings while only giving up one run and striking out 9.

The Generals now will open up Region III play on Saturday, March 27th as they will travel to Binghamton, NY to take on the SUNY Broome Hornets. The Hornets will return the favor and travel to Herkimer on Sunday the 28th. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
