# 3 Herkimer drops 2 games to #1 Corning CC

Syracuse, NY - In a battle of nationally ranked teams, the #3 Herkimer Generals dropped to 2 games to #1 Corning CC on Tuesday afternoon at Carrier Park in Syracuse, NY. The losses drop Herkimer's record to 18-4 on the season.

At the site of this year's NJCAA Division III Softball National Championships, the Generals and Red Barons staged a back and forth battle in Game 1 before Corning scored 7 runs in the top of the 8th inning to break an 8-8 tie and come away with the 15-9 win. After falling behind 1-0, Herkimer scored 1 in the first and 5 more in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Red Barons answered with 1 run in the 3rd and 5 more of their own in the 5th to take a 7-6 lead. The 7th inning saw Corning add a run to take an 8-6 lead before the Generals rallied for 2 of their own in the bottom half to knot the game at 8 and force extra innings, where Corning eventually used their big 8th inning to pull away for the victory.

Alexis Garrison (Clifton Park, NY) led the Generals offense, going 3-5 with 2 RBI's. Kassandra Granobles (Miami, Florida) added 2 hits while Melissa Daigneault (North Greenbush,NY) had 3 RBI's in the loss. Madison Ihnat (Boca Raton, FL) took the loss in the circle for the Generals, going all 8 innings and striking out 4.

Game 2 saw the Red Barons take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the 6th before scoring 5 runs to secure the 9-1 6 inning win. Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY) went 2-3 from the leadoff spot to lead the Generals offense. Hannah DeRock (Hunt,NY) struck out 4 in her 5 and 1/3 innings of work to take the loss.

The Generals will now look forward to the Region III Playoffs as they will host a Best of Three series on Saturday and Sunday May 8th and 9th against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday night. Game 1 is set for 12 Noon on Saturday at the Herkimer College Softball Field with Game 2 to follow right after. If the teams split on Saturday, a winner take all Game 3 will be held on Sunday at Herkimer. The winner advances to the Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15.
