Somow 4th goal of game gives Herkimer 4-3 OT win at Cayuga

Auburn, NY - Ali Somow (Utica, NY) scored his 4th goal of the game with 4 minutes left in the first overtime to give the #4 Herkimer Generals a 4-3 win over # 8 Cayuga CC in a battle of nationally ranked teams on Tuesday afternoon at Falcon Park in Auburn. The win improved the Generals record to 4-1-1 for the Spring 2021 season.

After Somow's third goal of the game gave Herkimer a 3-1 lead early in the second half, the Generals saw the Spartans score 2 goals in the final 2 minutes of regulation to tie the game at 3 and force the overtime session. Somow took a feed from Alex Charles (Christ Church, St. Kitts) 6 minutes into the first OT session to give the Generals the dramatic win. It was the second assist of the game for Charles while Goalie Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) made 4 saves in goal to get his 4th win of the season.

The win ends the Generals regular season as they now wait for the rest of the Region III Schedule to play out before determining if they qualify for the Region III Championship Game on Friday, May 21.
