Herkimer College Holds 54th Commencement

Graduates, family, and friends celebrated at the first in-person ceremony since 2019.

Herkimer County Community College held its 54th Commencement on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 4 p.m. in the Physical Education building. This was the first in-person ceremony since 2019. There were 337 graduates and candidates for degrees and certificates eligible to participate.

Board of Trustees Chairwoman Isabella Crandall presided over the ceremony. The National Anthem was sung by Adriana Doria Davis Sumter, a 2022 graduate of the Music Industry program from Dobbs Ferry, NY, and signed by Peyton McKinney, a 2022 graduate of the Business Administration program from Herkimer, NY. The invocation and benediction were delivered by Victor McKusick ’16, of the First Presbyterian Church, Whitesboro, NY. The procession was led by faculty representative and macebearer, Associate Professor Blake Pitcher.

Student Government Association President Ryan Packard ’22, of Oneonta, NY; Herkimer County Legislator Michael Gaworecki; New York State Assembly members Robert J. Smullen and Brian Miller; New York State Senate members Peter Oberacker and James Tedisco; and Herkimer College Academic Senate President Lisa Elwood-Farber delivered greetings.

The student address, Red Light, Green Light, was given by Kassandra Garcia, a 2022 graduate of the Communication and Media program from Rome, NY.

Degrees were conferred by President Cathleen C. McColgin with assistance from Provost Michael Oriolo. A reception for the graduates and their guests was held immediately following the ceremony.
