Herkimer College Employees Receive 2022 SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Excellence

Two Herkimer College employees have been honored with SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Excellence for 2022. The staff members were acknowledged during an employee recognition ceremony held on May 10 and during the 54th Commencement ceremony on May 13.

According to the State University of New York, the excellence awards are designed for faculty and staff who personify professional excellence and serve as role models not only for the State of New York, but for the College as well. They publicly acknowledge superior professional achievement while encouraging the pursuit of excellence.

Lisa Holynski, who serves as office assistant for the College Admissions Department, received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service. Holynski has been employed at the College for more than 47 years.

Lisa Holynski was honored for Excellence in Classified Service.

According to Herkimer College President Cathleen McColgin, Ph.D., during Holynski’s tenure she has earned a reputation for being a willing and positive team player and an enthusiastic supporter of the College, its students, faculty and staff, and SUNY.

“Her professionalism, coupled with her personal warmth, make her a vital asset for our students and their families,” McColgin stated.

Katherine Scanlon ’01, General Studies, director of the Herkimer College Advisement Center, received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

According to McColgin, Scanlon’s commitment to the success of the College and its students made her a deserving recipient of the honor.

“As the director for one of the most essential sets of services for our students, she consistently shows her pride in this institution, and in SUNY, by always giving her fullest and best effort,” McColgin shared. “The results speak for themselves; under her leadership the Advisement Center is one of the most effective service offices on campus. It’s a place where students feel welcome, comfortable, respected, and supported. (Scanlon) is also admired by the staff she supervises for being a strong, fair leader, who works just as hard, if not harder than she expects them to work.” Scanlon has been an employee of the College for over 17 years.

With the addition of these two employees, a total of 80 Herkimer College faculty and staff have been honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. A complete list is available at Herkimer.edu/chancellor-awards.
