Cougars unable to stay with Lady Generals in second half

(Kalli Warmingham finds teammate Emily Rexford in the second half against Holyoke Community College on Sunday).

HERKIMER, NY - The Herkimer Women's Soccer team completed a weekend sweep at the Coliseum Kickoff Classic by beating Holyoke Community College (Holyoke, MA) 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at Wehrum Stadium. The win gives Herkimer a 2-0 record as they head into Region III play later this week.

The Generals started the scoring in the 23rd minute as Kalli Warmingham (Newport, NY) collected a pass from Jennie Maxwell (Newport, NY) and placed a nice shot in the top corner of the goal to give the Generals a 1-0 lead. Herkimer took that lead into halftime before Holyoke evened the score at 1-1 midway through the second half. Herkimer answered back 10 minutes later when Warmingham sent a cross from the right side of the field that Emily Rexford (Canton, NY) tapped in for the 2-1 lead.

Shortly after Herkimer grabbed the lead, they added to it as Kaitlyn Lyon (Dolgeville, NY) sent a pass to Zaira Pabon (Liberty, NY) who beat the Holyoke keeper to the near post side for a 3-1 lead. Lyon finished out the Generals scoring with just over two minutes to play as she took a great pass from Danielle Nicosia (Oneonta, NY) and buried it into the net for Herkimer's fourth and final goal of the day. Holyoke scored a goal in the final minute for the 4-2 final.

Herkimer goalie Kristi Bills had a great weekend, adding 13 saves on Sunday to the 20 she had in the shutout win over Sussex Community College on Saturday.

Herkimer will take their 2-0 record on the road Tuesday night as they travel to Syracuse, NY to take on Region III opponent Onondaga Community College. Game time is 6:00 PM.
