Defense unable to hold against Broncos
DELHI, NY – Coming through in an overtime effort early this season against Genesee at home didn't yield the same results away at SUNY Delhi Saturday, seeing the Lady Generals soccer team lose 2-1 in overtime.
Herkimer's (7-5-1) defense has played well, keeping the team in every game this season. The team is led by sophomore's Kayla Guidi (Herkimer, NY), Sandra Martin (Brushton, NY), Kaitlin Winnie (Accord, NY), Georgiana Maye (Johnstown, NY), Jennie Maxwell (Newport, NY), Kaitlyn Lyon (Dolgeville, NY) and goalie Kristi Bills (Northville, NY).
Scoring has been the issue as of late, until freshman forward Kalli Warmingham (Newport, NY) gave the Generals a 1-0 in the first half.
With the Lady Generals scoring woes behind them, it looked to their defense again to prevail, relieving the team of its current three-game losing streak.
Unable to come through, like they have all season, the defense allowed a goal by Kelsey Lawlor in the second half and Nicole Welcome in overtime. Welcomes' goal came four minutes into overtime, unassisted.
The Lady Generals next game is against Jefferson Community College on Wednesday (10/16). It's their last home game of the regular season. Game time is 7 p.m.
