Herkimer College Professor to be Honored as one of YWCA Mohawk Valley’s Outstanding Women

Herkimer College Associate Professor of Biology Jennifer Adjodha-Evans, Ph.D. will be honored in the category of Education at this year’s YWCA Mohawk Valley’s Salute to Outstanding Women celebration.

“As a leader, educator, and advocate, Dr. Adjodha-Evans has made a significant positive impact in the community and her workplace,” Herkimer College Provost Michael Oriolo remarked. “She has prepared hundreds of students for careers and advanced study in the STEM field through classroom and laboratory instruction, advisement, and extracurricular activities. She has helped identify and implement programs and support for individuals who lack the resources and support needed to pursue and achieve a higher education. Through her leadership on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, Dr. Adjodha-Evans has helped enhance inclusivity within her workplace and equity in the community through various specialized programs and initiatives that bolster historically marginalized individuals.”

Adjodha-Evans joined Herkimer College in 2017 as an assistant professor of Biology. She instructs courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, environmental science, and ecology and advises students in the Health Professions and Science programs. Dr. Adjodha-Evans serves as president of the College Academic Senate and served as co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Adjodha-Evans played a critical role in securing a National Science Foundation grant for the Central New York Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Alliance. Through the Alliance, Herkimer College has partnered with Tompkins Cortland Community College, Ithaca College, SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Utica University, and SUNY Cortland to create pathways for under-represented minority students to continue their education and succeed in the STEM field more easily.

Adjodha-Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands and a master’s degree in Biology and a doctorate in Philosophy of Biology from The Graduate Center, City University of New York.

The 2024 Salute to Outstanding Women celebration will be held on Thursday, March 21, at Harts Hill Inn, Whitesboro.
