For the third consecutive year, Herkimer College will host the Makers of the Mohawk Valley exhibit August 30 – September 27, with an opening reception Friday, August 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cogar Gallery.

Spotlighting the expansive and diverse creativity of local artists and crafters alike, Makers of the Mohawk Valley has become a staple exhibit for the Mohawk Valley community and Herkimer College year after year. This inclusive exhibit coordinated by Associate Professor of Studio Art Justin Como creates a truly one-of-a-kind experience uniting the work of artists, crafters, creators and makers of all kinds in a magnificent and inspiring experience.

Makers of the Mohawk Valley debuted in 2022 with the goal to celebrate and shed light on the full spectrum of creative work by artists and makers of the local Mohawk Valley community. “There is no one theme” said Justin Como, “That’s the beauty of it. The pieces and themes come together naturally and vary from person to person. Its expressive, it really showcases the wide variety of work our community creates.”

Following the call for art, artists 18 and over living or working in the Mohawk Valley submitted one to two pieces created in the last three years to The Cogar Gallery. Mediums on display in this exhibit may include woodworking, fine arts, pottery, photography, glass, textile art and video, and encompass 2D and 3D artwork. There is no minimum size requirement, though 3D work may meet but not exceed 72 inches in any direction.

The Makers of the Mohawk Valley exhibit will be on display in The Cogar Gallery, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center (RMCC) of Herkimer College. The exhibit can be viewed Friday August 30 through Friday September 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when the College is open.

Though the exhibit is free and open to the public, many pieces will be available for purchase. For more information, contact Justin Como at comojm@herkimer.edu.
