Robert H. Wood Great Artists Series to Present The Hot Club of San Francisco

The Hot Club of San Francisco will perform at Herkimer College on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the Sarkus-Busch Theater, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center. The performance is open to the public free of charge.

The Hot Club of San Francisco is an ensemble of accomplished and versatile musicians celebrating the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephanie Grappelli’s pioneering Hot Club de France with style and panache. The HCSF borrows the instrumentation of violin, bass and guitars from the original Hot Club while breathing new life into the music with innovative arrangements of classic tunes and original compositions from the group’s superb lead guitarist Paul Mehling. It features the amazing violin of twice Grammy Award winner Evan Price and a swinging rhythm section. Their music carries the audience back to the smoky jazz clubs of Paris and the refined lounges of the famous Ritz Hotel.

Paul Mehling is the founder of The Hot Club of San Francisco. He began playing the guitar at the age of six. He studied the bass early on, and by 16 began violin lessons.
The Robert H. Wood Great Artists Series is the result of a generous endowment made to the Herkimer County College Foundation by the late Robert H. Wood, a long-time resident of Ilion, NY.
