Softball Generals take two from Twins
Hudson, NY – The skies were dark but the spirits were bright in the Herkimer dugout on Thursday afternoon. The Generals pitched and powered their way to their 20th win of the season and their 18th victory in a row with two wins over the Twins of Columbia-Greene CC.
Both games were shortened by the eight-run rule. Herkimer College won the first game 12-1 and took the second with a score of 15-7.
The two wins further strengthened the team's rankings of #1 in Region 3 and #3 in the national NJCAA poll.
Game One
Toni Secreti pitched another gem in Game One. (See photo below.) Secreti went the distance, giving up just one hit and one unearned run.
The Generals clinched the victory with a big fourth inning. Jessica Patterelli opened the frame with a walk. Sammy Smaldone doubled. Stephanie Siriano walked. Delaney Buckley doubled in two runs. Ashley Sterritt sent a two-RBI single into right. Alyssa Balfe and Rebekah Kitchen singled. Patterelli went to the plate again and stroked a two-run double. Herkimer College scored six runs on seven hits in the inning.

The offensive attack for the game overall was led by Buckley and Patterelli. Buckley hit her fourth home run in as many games, and added three more hits to finish the game four-for-four with four RBI's. Patterelli went three-for-three with a double and three RBI's. Ashley Sterritt (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI's), Sammy Smaldone (2-4, 2 2B) and Rebekah Kitchen (2-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI's) added multi-hit games for the Generals.

Game Two
The second game saw another offensive outburst by the Generals. Leading the attack were Sammy Smaldone (4-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI's), Jess Patterelli (4-4, 2B, 2 RBI's) and Delaney Buckley (2-3, 3 RBI's).
Caitlin Sanders (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI's) and Tina Karaqi (2-4, 2B) contributed multi-hit games. Steph Siriano added a two-run double, Ashley Sterriitt smacked a base hit and Fallon Spriggs added a two-run base hit.
Alexa DiSpirito got the start in the circle and was able to pick up her sixth win of the year.
The team will travel to Tompkins Cortland CC on Saturday. Their next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, when the Generals will host Onondaga CC.
