Softball Generals win twice at Niagara

Sanborn, NY - The Herkimer Generals softball team received two more great outings from their pitching staff on Sunday. Toni Secreti and Alexa DiSpirito were in the circle as Herkimer swept Niagara CC 9-0 and 9-1.

In Game One, Secreti went all seven innings, giving up just two hits and allowing no runs while striking out nine. Her run support was solid once again as Stephanie Siriano (3-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Samantha Smaldone (2-5, RBI), Jessica Patterelli (2-5), Rebekah Kitchen (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI ) and Fallon Spriggs (2-4, RBI) all had multi-hit games.

Alexa Dispirito received the ball for Game Two. She pitched a dandy, going six innings, allowing just one earned run and only two hits. Once again, the offense was led by the trio of Jess Patterelli (2-3, 2 RBI), Steph Siriano (2-3, 3B, 2 RBI) and Sammy Smaldone (2-4, RBI). Alyssa Balfe and Fallon Spriggs also had multi-hit games, with each going two-for-four with a double and an RBI. Rebekah Kitchen, Kathryn Dolly and Ashley Sterritt all contributed hits.

Herkimer is back in action at home for a big doubleheader with Monroe CC on Tuesday. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. The games could determine which team will get the coveted top seed in postseason play. Going into the current week, the Region 3 coaches' poll ranked Herkimer #1 and Monroe #2 among the 21 teams. Both Herkimer College and Monroe CC have lost only once in regional play.
