Men’s soccer shuts out fifth straight opponent

(Ben Polk scored the second goal of the game on a header in the 22nd to make it 2-0).

(Polk got his third hat trick of the season by successfully making a penalty kick in the 46th to make it 5-0).

UTICA, NY – Outscoring their opponents 36-0 in their last five games, the Herkimer Generals men’s soccer team remained undefeated against the Mountain Valley Conference Wednesday (10/8) afternoon, defeating No. 7 ranked Mohawk Valley 7-0, snapping the Hawks 11-game win streak.

Herkimer (11-0-1, 6-0) again got a solid start from sophomore forward Ben Polk (Banbury, UK). Within the first 22 minutes of play Polk managed to net two goals, one with his leg and the other with his head, on assists from Eric Kipoliongo (New Hampton, NY) and Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) to give Herkimer a lead (2-0) which would not be relinquished.

It didn’t stop there for the Generals in the first half. Windster and Kipoliongo then scored themselves in the 25th and 30th minute on assists from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) to double their lead into intermission 4-0.

It took Herkimer only one minute and 27 second to tally their first goal of the second half, seeing Polk get taken down just inside the 18 for the penalty kick. The sophomore scored the easy goal giving him his third hat trick of the season and 26th goal.

Increasing the lead to 6-0 in the 53rd was Windster, tallying his third multi-goal game. Assisting was Somow for his third assist in the game, getting three assist now twice this season.

Finishing the scoring was MacIntyre Felton (Vestal, NY). The sophomore netted his eighth goal, all coming in the last five games to push the score to 7-0.

In goal for the Generals was Austin Santor (Chazy, NY). The sophomore got his eighth shutout of the season without recording a save in 61 minutes. Jack Kinsley (Reepham, Norfolk) relieved Santor and did not record a save either.

Next up for Herkimer is their last home game of the regular season. They’ll face SUNY Delhi on Saturday (10/11) who is the sixth best team in the region. They have won five games in a row just like the Generals. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
