Polk hat trick helps defeat Cougars
BATAVIA, NY – In his final regular season game against his former team, Ben Polk (Banbury, UK) got his third hat trick of the season and helped the men’s soccer team defeat Genesee Community College 4-0 on Saturday (10/18).
Herkimer (14-0-1, 7-0) saw Polk score two goals in the first half, one from Moulid Somow (Utica, NY) in the 14th, then got his second on a penalty kick in the 41st to make it 2-0 in favor of the Generals.
Polk got the hat trick on an assist from Somow to push the score to 3-0 in the 63rd, then Mitch White (Leicester, England) made it 4-0, connecting with Rodrigo Guerra (Newburgh, NY) in the 75th for his first goal of the season.
In net for the Generals was Austin Santor (Chazy, NY) and Jack Kinsley (Reepham, Norfolk). Santor had one save and Kinsley had zero to help Herkimer end the regular season on an eight game win streak.
Up next for Herkimer is regionals. Seeding will be done later next week. The Generals could get a bye for quarterfinals, setting them up for a home game in the final week of October in semifinals.
