Late goals power Panthers past Generals
Dryden, NY – The Generals made a great comeback on Saturday afternoon. Herkimer tied the game with 3:40 left to play, but the Tompkins-Cortland ("TC3") Panthers struck for two more goals and won the contest 12-10.
The Panthers struck first and grabbed a 2-0 lead. The Generals were forced to play catch up at that point and for most of the game, but they did catch up with impressive comebacks. TC3 also built leads of 5-1 and, eventually, 10-6, but the Generals never gave up.
Head Coach Jamie Ireland's squad fought back from that 10-6 deficit and tied the game. Berek Martichuski, Davey Mitchell, and Kamm David all scored unassisted goals, and then Martichuski took a pass from Joe Lopopolo and fired in the tying goal. Only 3:40 was left on the clock, and the Generals had hopes of winning, but the home team managed to score twice and secure the victory.
Herkimer outshot the Panthers with 26 shots on goal to TC3's 21.
The loss leaves Herkimer with a final season mark of 5-8. Three of those losses were by a total of only five goals.
