In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Herkimer College is conducting pooled surveillance testing, developed by SUNY Upstate Medical Center. The test is quick and easy – the individual simply swabs the inside of their mouth and provides the saliva sample to staff to be sent to Upstate Medical Center. The saliva from 12 individuals is pooled together and tested. If the results are negative, no further action is necessary. If the results are positive for COVID-19, further testing of the individual saliva samples is conducted to identify the infected individual(s).

Testing is taking place Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cogar Gallery. All residential students (students living in campus housing), commuters taking one or more classes on campus, and student-athletes are required to test every other week on specific days.

As of the writing of this message, we have had zero positive cases reported! We would like to thank our students, employees and campus visitors for their continued cooperation and diligence in following health and safety protocols to ensure our campus community remains #HERKSafe.
