Blumenstock scores four goals in victory over defending National Champs

Mikayla Blumenstock v broome

Herkimer, N.Y. - The Herkimer Generals were looking for some revenge Friday as the Broome Hornets came to town. Broome defeated the Generals in the Region 3 Championship last year 2-1 and went on to win the National Championship. The ladies didn’t forget it and came out strong jumping all over Broome. Although it wasn’t until the 19 minute mark when the Generals would get on the board, they eventually would unleash a bevy of goals in which Broome hasn’t seen for quite some time, scoring all seven goals in a 23 minute span in the first half.

Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) opened it up with a natural hat trick scoring in the 19th, 22nd, & 26th minute.  Assisting on the first 3 goals was Annie Thorp (Hilton, NY), Maddie Renshsaw (Herkimer, NY), & Alexis Romeyn (St. Johnsville, NY).  Sarah George (Dolgeville, NY) got herself on the stat sheet with a goal in the 31st minute with a pass from Alexis Darrow (Poland, NY).  Blumenstock would tally another goal 7 minutes later on a ball from Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville, NY) and then Blumenstock returned the favor setting up Couchman for a goal of her own in the 40th minute.  The last goal of the game saw super sub Caitlin Handy (St. Johnsville, NY) finish a Hailey Couchman cross.

The victory moves the Generals to 8-0 on the season. Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY), M’Kenzie Bradshaw (Oswego, NY), & Honesti Crochran (Wingdale, NY) all saw time in the goal to preserve the shutout. Next up, a road trip to a tough Corning team on Sunday.
